Editorial policy

FitCalcs exists to answer the body, diet and training questions people search for with calculators that show their working. This policy explains how we source our figures, who is accountable for the words, how we fact-check, and how to ask for a correction. The short version: every calculator states the equation it uses, every benchmark is tied to a named UK source, a named editor stands behind the site, and nothing is published unverified.

How we source

Every calculator names the equation it runs on, such as Mifflin-St Jeor for resting energy, Riegel for race-time prediction or Karvonen for heart-rate zones, so you can see the rule behind the number. Population benchmarks are cited to named, official UK sources: the NHS Health Survey for England, Sport England Active Lives, the National Diet and Nutrition Survey, parkrun and the London Marathon. Where a number cannot be tied to a named source, we leave it out rather than estimate. We do not invent statistics.

Who edits this site

The named editor of FitCalcs is Oliver Mackman, a director of the operating company Best Business Loans Ltd (company number 16833937), who is accountable for the site's editorial standards and sourcing. His role is editorial oversight and source discipline: he checks that every result cites its equation and a named source, that the health tools carry the right caveats, and that corrections are handled promptly. He does not provide individualised health advice.

Health content is informational only

Anything that touches health, body composition or diet is treated as informational only, not medical advice. The tools give indicative figures based on published equations and population data, not a clinical assessment, and they are clear about their limits. We say plainly when a question needs a qualified professional, such as a GP, a registered dietitian or NHS 111, rather than a calculator. We never give individualised medical or dietary advice.

Corrections

If you spot something wrong or out of date, email [email protected] with the page URL and what looks off. We review every report, fix genuine errors promptly, and update the page. You can also reach the editor at [email protected].

Use of AI tools

AI tools may assist with drafting and research, but they do not decide what is true. Every published equation and benchmark is checked against a named source by the editor before it goes live. Nothing is published unverified, and a figure that cannot be traced to a named source is removed rather than left in.

Independence and advertising

FitCalcs is funded by advertising. Our editorial coverage is independent of advertisers: who advertises does not influence which calculators we build, the equations we use, or the sources we cite.
